The scope of the UC extends from the understanding of geographic space, georeferenced information associated with information systems. In this course, the student will have a vision of information systems to support decision-making, namely in the production of documents that reflect spatial or other analyses. It is in these systems that georeferenced information is combined with alphanumeric or other information.

Description of contents The Earth - Shape; Geographical, Rectangular and Polar coordinates; Cartography - Notions of Datum, Ellipsoid, Geoid and cartographic projections. - Projections and their classification. - Azimuth Conversion. Digital Cartography: Production workflow. - Data acquisition methods: Topography, Photogrammetry, Remote sensing. Geographic Information Systems applied to Aeronautics. - Use of QGIS software. Addition of layers, Raster and Vector. - Three-dimensional information, MDT (Digital Terrain Model), preparation of terrain profiles. - Symbolization, placement and manipulation of labels. - Georeferencing, Rasterization, Digitization theorem and Nyquist frequency. - Preparation of maps for printing: legend, coordinate grid, compass rose, graphic scale and map title. Objectives
Objectives
Based on in-depth research, the student will increase their knowledge and technological experience in Aeronautical Geography, combining the latest Geographic Information Technologies (TIG) and Air Traffic Management (ATM), namely in terms of Aeronautic Information Management (AIM), thus making it possible to establish a perfect correlation between these two areas, given the emerging needs in the aeronautics sector.

Teaching methodologies and assessment
Individual investigation by the student of a tool in GIS context (proposed/chosen by the student). Preparation of an explanatory document of the subject studied, to be distributed to the other students in the class, and presented in class. If it is possible to make the cartographic update using GPS.
