The purpose of this course is to introduce probability distribuition models and the basic principles of Inferential Statistics. Students should understand the usefulness and wide application of these methodologies to various contexts, particularly in their subject areas. It is intended that students develop their thinking skills, helping them to address and solve real practical problems in their area of study or in other contexts.

Probability distribuitions Probability distributions for discrete random variables (uniform, binomial, negative binomial, hypergeometric, Poisson). Probability distributions for continuous random variables (uniform, normal, exponential, t-Student, chi-square). Approximations. Estimation Introduction to point estimation. Confidence intervals for a population mean, variance and standard deviation. Confidence intervals for a population proportion. Parametric hypothesis testing Hypothesis testing for the mean of a normal population and for a proportion of binomial populations. Non-parametric hypothesis testing Chi-Squared goodness-of-fit test. Chi-Squared independence test.

Objectives
Objectives
Skills: - Understand different theoretical probability distribution models, identify them and apply them in practical cases. - Build confidence intervals for Normal and Binomial distributions parameters. - Perform parametric hypothesis tests related to Normal and Binomial distributions. - Develop non-parametric hypotheses tests (goodness-of-fit and independence tests).
