Presentation
The Topography and Geographic Information Course aims at transmitting fundamental concepts and skills for the interpretation of topographic maps as a tool for the development and support of the various activities related to Civil Engineering (planning, design, construction and monitoring of buildings). In particular, focus is given to carrying out measurement and topographic surveys, highlighting the required instruments and techniques. Additionally, the fundamentals of Geographic Information Systems are presented.

Objectives
Objectives
Interpret representations of the terrestrial surface and know the elementary magnitudes to observe. Interpret the cartographic representations (maps, charts, plans, ortophotomaps, satellite images) and identify the natural and artificial elements of the terrain. Accurately measure linear dimensions, areas, volumes, slopes and geo-referenced positions from the cartographic representation of the terrain. Identify and distinguish the various types of geo-referencing used in cartography, as well as the networks of existing geo-referenced points. Know the methods, instruments, and techniques necessary to carry out a topographic survey and verify its adequacy to the purpose and precision of the survey. Perform topographic surveys to support the development of construction projects. Know the Geographic Information Systems as tools to support the construction, planning and decision making.
