The curricular unit provides knowledge in planning and management of transport systems, the characteristics of its components and the assessment of their performance, and aspects related to the implementation of sustainable mobility. It is complemented and is complemented, in the 1st cycle, by the "Road Infrastructures" course. In the 2nd cycle, by the curricular units "Road Infrastructure Management" and "Transport Infrastrutures".

Syllabus
1. Transport framework. 2. Transport Systems. Different modes of transport. Transport infrastructures. 3. Planning and management of transport systems. 4. Traffic Engineering. Observation and representation of mobility. Pedestrian traffic management. Road traffic management: main section analysis, intersection analysis (priority, traffic lights and roundabouts). Performance evaluation of public transport.

Objectives
Students are expected to develop skills in observing and understanding the performance of transport systems, with a particular focus on the road mode. The observation component includes aspects of description and performance evaluation of transport systems.

Teaching methodologies and assessment
Teaching methodologies and assessment
Active teaching methodology places the student at the centre of the learning process. Students are encouraged to solve autonomously exercises for evaluation, having the opportunity to discuss with their peers the methodology to solve the problems. This process will allow students to develop critical thinking, increasing their problem-solving capacity.
