    The course introduces students to the main International Relations paradigms and theories. Broadly, the approach is historical, thus providing students with insight as to how IR theory evolved and the issues raised over the decades. Various theories and theorists within realism, neo-realism, liberal institutionalism, constructivism and other paradigms are considered so that students may gain a critical view of the main approaches to IR.

  • Objectives

    Objectives

    To understand the paradigms and  theories dominant in the study of International Relations. Develop skills and conceptual tools for understanding the scientific evolution of International Relations at the university level. To acquire specialized IR competencies as well as interpretative tools to better comprehend problematics in international politics, particularly in the area of European studies. To prepare students for critical analysis of the international system, including integration and interdependence. To prepare students for work in the area of International Relations, particularly in the field of diplomacy and NGOs.

    Teaching methodologies and assessment

    Complementing the presentation of theoretical knowldege, discussion of concrete cases operationalizing theories and concepts will be undertaken
