Class Modelling and Confection Workshop I

  • Presentation

    Presentation

The curricular unit of Patternmaking and Manufacturing I is a fundamental field for Fashion Design and Production. Within Fashion Design, the fields of patternmaking and manufacturing are essential, from the creation and development of draping pattern extraction to the perception of measures and wearability of a dress, the construction of base patterns, and exercises of pin rotation of some garments.

  • Syllabus

    Syllabus

    1. The process and idealisation of altering/adapting a garment: making a dress in raw fabric; 2. The industrial sizing system: the relationship between garment sizes and body measurements 3. Construction of a basic body patternmaking. Practical exercise 4. Darts manipulation and volume creation. Rotation of darts (body). Practical exercise 5. The relationship between the type of fabric and the garment's patternmaking: dart rotation on a top + sleeve transformation - exercise with dart rotation technique of the student's choice
  • Objectives

    Objectives

    1. In-depth knowledge of the main patternmaking techniques: extraction of patterns from the unbleached cloth dress developed in draping; 2. Knowledge of standardised measurement systems, wearability measurements and how to measure the human body; 3. Knowledge of the process of developing base patterns and two-dimensional patternmaking of garments (body base pattern); 4. Identify the various stages and procedures for patternmaking and manufacturing garments using the pincer rotation technique; 5. Developing the construction and transformation of sleeves; 6. Developing and manufacturing patternmaking for simple garments: patternmaking and manufacturing a basic top with sleeves using the dart rotation technique.
  • Teaching methodologies and assessment

    Teaching methodologies and assessment

The curricular unit will be developed through theoretical-practical, expository and demonstrative sessions, and practical work of an experimental nature will be developed during class sessions. The methodology of learning by doing will be applied to help integrate the contents taught so that the student is enlightened. A participatory approach will be encouraged, facilitating the assimilation of content and fostering teacher/student interaction. As an active method, tutorial teaching will accompany the project and be carried out throughout the course.
