At the intersection of veterinary medicine and technology, my career represents a commitment to innovation and wildlife conservation. This is evident in my academic accomplishments, including a dual PhD in Veterinary Sciences from FMV-ULisboa and Molecular and Cellular Biology from UniOvi, both from 2018 to 2022. Further solidifying my expertise, I attained a Diplomate title from the American College of Veterinary Microbiology (ACVM) in December 2023, with specializations in Virology and Immunology, being the first in Portugal. My active engagement with the professional community is exemplified by my ACVM Communication Committee membership, where I contribute to disseminating key microbiological findings. An early interest in wildlife steered me towards veterinary medicine. Guided by childhood respect for wildlife and an interest in biological sciences, I was drawn to animal health and conservation. This interest prompted me to embark on a DVM at FMV-ULisboa from 2012-2018, establishing an academic foundation for subsequent research and professional endeavours. Already in the master's thesis in 2017, and continuing in PhD studies, I contributed to INIAV, CIISA and UniOvi as a researcher until 2023. Through INIAV, I was a member of two projects to develop measures to recover wild leporids from 2017-2021 (+Coelho and + Coelho2 - governmental projects). I studied viral pathogens affecting endangered wild rabbit and Iberian hare. I honed technical skills including animal sampling, PCR, RT-PCR, qPCR, multiplex PCR, and developing techniques for genetic analysis. I gained proficiency in recombinant bacteria/virus manipulation, cell culture, DNA extraction/purification, virus isolation, and sequencing technologies for genomic analysis. I also employed methods like immunohistochemistry to visualize and characterize viral infections. Concurrently with INIAV, I collaborated with CIISA at FMV-ULisboa until 2023. As a researcher, I was involved in diagnostic procedures, including necropsy, histopathology, cytology, and lymphocyte purification. My proficiency in immunodiagnostic techniques was refined through immunohistochemistry and immunocytochemistry. Completing my dual PhD programs was a pivotal career moment. My focused research on viruses impacting wild species led to over 25 publications, demonstrating the significance of my work. Collaborations with institutions such as IMM, UniOvi and UC Davis bolster my international experience. In February 2023, I took on the role of Assistant Professor at FMV-ULusófona, where I coordinate programs (Citology & Histology and Infectious Diseases) and serve as a CECAV researcher. My commitment to academic excellence was recognized with my appointment as Coordinating Professor for Innovation and Pedagogical Integration. To further bridge technology and veterinary science, I embarked on a master's in Artificial Intelligence in September 2023, aiming to apply this knowledge to my field. Looking ahead, I aim to integrate technologies like AI further into veterinary science to enhance diagnostics, treatments, and wildlife well-being, ensuring sustainable coexistence with nature. I am a self-taught HTML, PHP, JavaScript and Python programmer, with several academic websites published. My diverse training and experience demonstrate technical skills, collaborative spirit, and commitment to advancing veterinary knowledge and conservation goals. I am poised to continue making meaningful contributions.
