Resume

João Robert Nogueira holds a degree in Physics from the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon, a Master's degree in Environmental Engineering from the Instituto Superior Técnico, and a PhD in Education from the Institute of Education of the Lusófona University of Humanities and Technologies, with the thesis "Computer programming and meaningful learning in Physics: an exploratory study with secondary school students". As additional training, he did the school part of the Master's Degree in Gravitation and High Energy at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon. He is an assistant professor at the Faculty of Engineering of ULHT, where he has been teaching subjects in the areas of Physics, Mathematics and Programming since 1997. For three years he was a Physics lecturer (Trainee Assistant) at the University of Beira Interior, having also had two years' experience in Primary and Secondary Education, where he taught Physics and Chemistry and Mathematics. Since 2010, he has been coordinator of the scientific area of Physics at ULHT's Faculty of Engineering. He is a member of ReLeCo: Learning & Innovation. He is currently participating in three ERASMUS+ KA2 projects: "Integrated STEM Education with an Interactive Digital Library for Curious Kids" (ID KA220-SCH-818DA381); "Climate Change and STEM Education in Classrooms" (ID KA220-SCH-4B26A985); "STEAMing up the sustainability with Sustainable Development Goals" (ID KA220-SCH-101EA0B0). Between 2003 and 2013, he was an assistant researcher in the MARETEC group in the Environment and Energy section of the Mechanical Engineering Department at Instituto Superior Técnico. During this period, he developed work in the area of oceanographic modeling, as well as biological modeling. He is currently working in the field of science teaching, focusing on the use of programming and computer environments in the teaching/learning processes of physics, chemistry and mathematics. With these methodologies, he seeks to enhance meaningful learning in the sciences, based on interdisciplinarity and the integration of concepts.
