Resume

Researcher at the NOVA Institute of Communication - Performance and Cognition group (individual CEEC contract 2019-2025); Choreographer, Dancer, Performer. Specialities: Contemporary Dance, Choreographic Thinking (Improvisation/Real-Time Composition), Communication Sciences, Communication and Arts, Anthropology, Performance Studies, Attention Practices, and Artistic Research. She began her academic career with a master's degree in Contemporary Culture and New Technologies, FCSH, under the guidance of Professor José Bragança de Miranda, with whom she also did her doctoral thesis in Communication and Arts. During the writing of her doctoral thesis, she began to problematise Choreographic Thinking, which is still in dialogue with the research of four choreographers she has followed for several years: Lisa Nelson, Mark Tompkins, Olga Mesa and João Fiadeiro, as well as anthropologist Fernanda Eugénio. After a three-month stay in Montréal with philosophers Erin Manning and Brian Massumi, she deepened her interest in Process philosophy and speculative thinking about artistic research. In this context, she follows the work of Sense Lab (Manning/Massumi, Montréal) and AND_Lab (Eugénio PT/BR), which she has attended since 2012. She was also involved with informal groups around the arts, thought and activism, such as: APPD (1994), Salganhada (2011), AND_Lab (since 2011), baldio-estudos de performance (since 2012), RIA-rede de investigação artística (2015), Transpensar-c.e.m (since 2020) and Es.Col.az (2021-). Between 1996 and 2015, she composed, produced and/or performed a dozen pieces, including Chapter on Indifference, or Something Like That, Einzimmerwohnung, Süss and Capricho#2-Outra Coisa. After finishing her doctoral thesis, all her pieces and performances were named "Capricho" and numbered according to the situation. Some caprices (in memoriam) had only one public performance. She was the editor of Interact, an online magazine about art, culture and technology (2019-2024), one of the first digital native magazines started by CECL and hosted by ICNOVA. She participates in the activities of ICNOVA and the Performance and Cognition group, taking part in collective projects and organising the permanent Performance and Cognition seminars. She also participates in organising the Cratera-performance and cognition website. Between 2014 and 2020, she was a visiting professor at FCSH, UNL, where she taught the seminar Dance in Context in the master's program in Performing Arts, covering topics related to Dance and Performance Studies, Philosophy, Anthropology, and Media. Since 2019, she has been a researcher at ICNOVA with an individual CEEC contract (FCT/FCSH). In 2019/20, she reformulated the seminar programme, sharing the seminar with eight guest lecturers: Ana Godinho Gil, Ana F. Mira, Ana Pais, Carlos M. Oliveira, João Fiadeiro, José Gil, Maria José Fazenda and Paula Caspão, and matching each session to key subjects in Dance Studies. She is currently working on the project "Attention and Choreographic Thinking, an Approach to Ethico-Aesthetic Paradigms in Performance, Dance and Cinema", which awarded her the contract CEEC/FCT. The project uses the experimental dimension of the performing arts for critical and speculative reflections in academic and artistic research contexts. Its axes - brought together by many years of artistic practices and situated practices - are: "attention", "improvisation", "real-time composition", the ethics and aesthetics of artistic practices, and "choreopolitics" inspired by André Lepecki's work. Her "Procrastination School" project was developed in several stages that coincided with different moments of COVID-19 and involved many spectators and artists from diverse backgrounds. Besides ethics in improvisation and real-time composition, "Procrastination School" expanded into the political sphere and "ecologies of attention" (cf. Citton) ", the right to be lazy" (cf. Stengers) and "24/7" (cf. Crary).

We can learn much from enduring this moment and trust that vibrant questions may arise. Suddenly, Covid came to fit the project rather than the contrary. Everything was on hold and postponed somehow…
