    The course of Inorganic Pharmaceutical Chemistry is intended to acquire knowledge related to the physicochemical properties of the Periodic Table of elements in particular the elements of the main group of the Periodic Table. The aspects of the therapeutic application of compounds involved in some of these elements will be studied. Metal complexes studies considering the drug action and the biological systems as well as chemotherapy with compounds of some non-essential elements (such as Pt) will also be addressed. The final part of the program will present the introduction to the study of radiopharmaceuticals.

    1. Introduction: objectives and Pharmaceutical Inorganic Chemistry applications. 2. Atomic structure and the Periodic Table (P.T.): Chemical bonding. 3. The constituent chemicals of biological materials. 4. Chemical elements of s and p blocks: hydrogen and their compounds. Study of the elements of groups 1 and 2 of the P.T. 5. Study of elements of groups 13, 14, 15, 16 and 17 of the P.T.: properties, natural sources, obtention, and biological applications. Important compounds and derivatives of the groups: preparation and reactivity. 6. Transition Metais and Coordination Chemistry. 7.Bioinorganic Chemistry. Metal complexes influence on the drugs actions and biological systems. 8. Chemotherapy compounds with some non-essential elements. 9. Nuclear Chemistry: introduction and applications. 10. Radiopharmaceuticals: introduction. Clinical applications.

    In the course of Inorganic Pharmaceutical Chemistry is intended that students acquire knowledge related to the physicochemical properties of the Periodic Table of elements in particular the elements of the main group of the Periodic Table. Where possible these are aspects of the therapeutic application of compounds involved in some of these elements. Metal complexes studies considering the drug action and the biological systems as well as chemotherapy with compounds of some non-essential elements (such as Pt) will also be addressed. In the final phase of the program will be presented the introduction to the study of radiopharmaceuticals

    Teaching methodologies and assessment

    The Inorganic Medicinal Chemistry course comprises theoretical and laboratory classes, with the aim of transmitting fundamental knowledge about the physical and chemical properties of the elements of the Periodic Table and their therapeutic applications. The theoretical classes, valuing the basic concepts, encourage active participation by students, stimulating critical and independent thinking. The teaching material will be made available on the Moodle platform. The laboratory work allows the practical application of theoretical knowledge, involving the identification and preparation of simple pharmaceutical compounds and their quality control. The unit includes a field project during the week of contact with the profession, with a study visit that offers a practical view of the real applications of these compounds. The tutorial teaching develops research and critical analysis skills.
