    1. Critical aspects of research. The scientific method and the nature of different types of research. 2. Stages of the science research process, methodologies, approaches, and ethical assumptions 3. Experimental design: definition, necessary infrastructure, principles, and main methods 4. Data collection and organization. Classification of variables 5. Sampling methods 6. Descriptive statistics 7. Distribution of random means and central limit theorem. Confidence intervals 8. Introduction to hypothesis testing on means and proportions 9. Parametric and non-parametric tests 10. Use of online bibliographic databases to search for technical and scientific documents and their critical reading 11. Rules for the elaboration of: i) posters; ii) oral communications; iii) documents and scientific articles 12. Application of the technical-scientific language inherent to research 13. Strategies for designing and evaluating research projects in realistic cases

    Objectives

    1. Understand and critically reflect on the importance of research and of the scientific method 2. Discriminate experimental and observational studies in the area of veterinary sciences in an ethical manner 3. Plan a scientific research layout 4. Apply the appropriate methodology for data collection 5. Use statistical analysis methodologies to gather and summarize data in the field of veterinary sciences 6. Evaluate and interpret the results obtained, using inferential statistics 7. Use statistical analysis software (SPSS or similar) for descriptive and inferential analysis of the data obtained 8. Apply basic research skills and critical reading of technical and scientific documentation 9. Know the essential rules of posters , oral communications, scientific documents and scientific papers elaboration within the scope of scientific communication 10.Understand and know how to apply the technical-scientific language inherent to science research 11. Prepare and evaluate research projects

    Teaching methodologies and assessment

    The teaching methodologies include theoretical classes, laboratory practices, tutorial guidance, and seminars: Theoretical: Presentation of the program's concepts. Laboratory practices: Exploration of theoretical concepts followed by practical exercises, with or without the use of SPSS. Tutorial guidance: Group work for problem-solving, using digital resources and techniques such as flipped classroom and modified jigsaw. Seminars: Presentation of practical examples and case studies, with participation from specialists and students.
