The UC on Health Law and Occupational Safety, innovative in the national legal scenario, is crucial within the scope of the Master's course in Labor and Social Security Law, allowing a legal analysis of the preventive perspective regarding the worker's exposure to occupational risks in a double aspect: rights and duties of the parties and rights and duties of the State.

Objectives
Objectives
In this Curricular Unit are taught the most significant aspects of health and safety at work and of the prevention of occupational risks for the health at work and the improvement of work conditions. In this context, the students must be able to understand the constitutional protection to the health and safety at work of employees, the concept of occupational risk and its typology and understand and be able to apply in the labour relation the rights, duties and responsibilities that inside in the employees, employers, collective subjects and State. Whit this theorical basis the students will be able to understand the political, economic and human options under the occupational risk conceptualization and the adaptation of preventive measures; to know the international, European and Portuguese law and apply it to solve practical issues and the development of scientific skills.

Teaching methodologies and assessment
Teaching methodologies and assessment
The curricular unit will be teaching with a balance between theorical-practical exposition of topics by professor (presentation and discussion of the subjects and questions of the syllabus and their knowledge application) in the and dialogue with and between students. During classes students are encouraged to ask questions, give their opinion in relevant subjects, and participate in case-solving classes. Presenting assignments is also a very important learning tool. Students may choose to write an essay on a particular subject. A list of suggestions will be available, but students may choose a different subject. The professor will be available to discuss the subject choice.
