The UC on Accidents at Work and Occupational Diseases aims to study the applicable Law from the perspective of compensation in the event of a work accident and the emergence of an occupational disease. It is, therefore, a curricular unit of utmost relevance within the scope of this Master's Course.

1. Work accidents and occupational illness 2. The protection in case of accident and occupational illness 3. Confirmation of disabilities and types of disability, recurrence, worsening and relapse 4. Claims and procedures in the event of an accident at work and/or occupational disease 5. The guarantee of compliance with repair obligations 6. The new challenges for the work accidents and occupational diseases regime.

Objectives
Objectives
In this Curricular Unit are taught the most significant aspects of work accidents and occupational illness from its conceptualization to the several procedures to adopt in case of occurrence of an work accident or an occupational disease. In this context, the students must be able to understand when, how and where is applicable the law and its objectives and also to understand the dual system in the Portuguese law (a private system in case of work accident and a public system in case of occupational illness), there protection and reparatory regimes. Whit this theorical basis the students will be able to understand the political that are in base of the work accidents and occupational illness law and to manage the law and proceedings; to know the national law and apply it to solve practical issues and the development of scientific skills.

Teaching methodologies and assessment
Teaching methodologies and assessment
The curricular unit will be teaching with a balance between theorical-practical exposition of topics by professor (presentation and discussion of the subjects and questions of the syllabus and their knowledge application) in the and dialogue with and between students. During classes students are encouraged to ask questions, give their opinion in relevant subjects, and participate in case-solving classes. Presenting assignments is also a very important learning tool. Students may choose to write an essay on a particular subject. A list of suggestions will be available, but students may choose a different subject. The professor will be available to discuss the subject choice.
