The main objective of the Building Construction Technologies I curricular unit is the description and understanding of the various stages of civil engineering design as well as building construction techniques and main regulations. Thus, it privileges the study and understanding of the designed and written pieces of civil engineering specialties and the knowledge of the constituent elements of different structural schemes and details. Other elements of civil construction, wall coverings and general aspects of standardisation of drawn and written parts are also addressed. Given the importance of knowledge of design standardization, legislation, materials and structural schemes, this course unit aims to contribute to the acquisition of knowledge that will enable future engineers to a more correct reading and analysis of the different engineering specialties as well as to support and decide the possibilities of using different techniques and materials.

Teaching methodologies and assessment
Teaching methodologies and assessment
In the relevant Curricular Unit, theoretical concepts will be aligned with practical applications in real-life cases. Collaboration among students and with the instructor is encouraged during classes to work as a team in problem-solving. Students will be presented with topics and problems for subsequent contextualization of the concepts. "Problem-Based Learning" (PBL) practices are highly valued in all classes of this specific Curricular Unit.
