Objectives
Objectives
It is intended that students develop the ability to analyse problems involving the equilibrium of rigid bodies (under different types of actions). Students are expected to acquire the capability to analyse simple isostatic systems: determine reactions, understand internal efforts and calculate the correspondent diagrams. In this context, special attention is paid to the analysis of trusses. The first concepts related to geometry of masses and cross-section properties are introduced, which will prove to be fundamental throughout the Cycle of Studies.

Teaching methodologies and assessment
Teaching methodologies and assessment
The methodologies to support the teaching-learning process are centred on the students as well as on the development of their autonomy, whether in terms of acquisition or application of knowledge. Students are often encouraged to complete a set of practical exercises. Additionally, relevance is given to the laboratory component of the classes.
