    Syllabus

    - Concepts of technological risk, social risk and biological risk; - Types of technological risks: hazardous substances in industries and storage; transport of dangerous goods, gas and oil pipelines; radiological emergencies and CBRN threats; risks associated with transport (road, rail, sea and air); - Serious industrial accidents; - Types of social risk: hunger, public order, terrorism, human action of mass suicide; - Community directives and legislation on technological risks; - Preventive measures; - Methods for modeling, evaluating and categorizing technological risk.

    - Provide basic concepts related to technological and social risks; - Encourage students to identify and interpret different types of technological and social risks; - Know the national programs and their integration with those developed at international level on technological and social risks; - Identify methods of analysis, modeling and evaluation of the consequences of a technological accident; - Identify and characterize the different types of technological and social risks; - Know the community directives and Portuguese legislation on technological and social risks; - Identify preventive measures for risk mitigation and recognize the difficulties inherent in their implementation; - Identify areas that could potentially be affected by technological risks.
  • Teaching methodologies and assessment

    Teaching methodologies and assessment

    The teaching-learning methods will be based on the work developed in the classroom, on the study and on the bibliography research / consultation by the student. During the sessions, the teacher will present and discuss the syllabus, applying the knowledge acquired to specific situations presented. Students will be involved in the discussion of the topics under analysis and in the resolution of exercises or problems proposed, as well as being asked to perform work outside the classroom. At certain times, the student will be required, individually or in a group, to present and defend his or her work. TH hours are dedicated to student support. EVALUATION: Continues, in harmony with the ULP Knowledge Assessment Regulation. It consists of two written test (25%+25%) and an interdisciplinary research work (50%) involving other UCs in the 2nd year.
