    The syllabus of this Curricular Unit aim to provide students with theoretical skills for analyzing and understanding psychological development in childhood and adolescence, as well as practical skills for the observation of development throughout this period of the life cycle.

    Syllabus

    PC1. Human development - The concept of human development, theoretical perspectives, research methods for the study of human development. PC2. Contexts of development - General approach for the study of contexts of human development: biological, family, social, economic - Development as a context and contexts in interaction. PC3. Prenatal and neonatal development – Stages of prenatal development – Psychological development tasks of pregnancy – The development of the newborn PC4. The first two years of life and the preschool years - Physical, cognitive and socioemotional development - The consistency of the behavior and development. PC5. School years - Physical, cognitive, moral, and socioemotional development - Development in the family and peer contexts -The consistency of the behavior and development PC6. Adolescence - Physical, cognitive, moral, socioemotional and identity development - Development in family and in peer context - The consistency of the behavior and development.
  • Objectives

    Objectives

    LO1: Identify and describe the key principles of Developmental Psychology. LO2: Compare the different theoretical perspectives within the scope of developmental psychology and apply them in the explanation of development from the fetal period to adolescence. LO3: Discuss critically the advantages and disadvantages of different methodological designs and research methods in Developmental Psychology. LO4: Describe milestones, tasks and processes of physical, cognitive, emotional and social development of children and adolescents. LO5: Recognize the importance of the various contexts where human development occurs. LO6: Demonstrate observational skills of the children’ and adolescents’ development.  
  • Teaching methodologies and assessment

    Teaching methodologies and assessment

    Different teaching methodologies (TM) will be used: lecturing moments (TM1), small group activities in the classroom (TM2), video visualization (TM3), conceptual maps (TM4), quizzes (TM5), lecturer and peer feedback (TM6), bibliographic research (TM7) and observation grids (TM8).
