Márcia Lima

Resume

Márcia Lima began her academic journey in 2006 at the University of Aveiro, enrolling in the Integrated Master’s in Civil Engineering, which she completed in 2011 with a final grade of 16 out of 20. In the same year, she was awarded an individual PhD scholarship by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), with the research work starting in 2012. Between 2012 and 2015, she developed her doctoral research at the University of Aveiro, including a four-month period at Lund University (Sweden). During this time, she was also involved in various research projects. In 2016, she joined ANQIP – the Portuguese Association for Quality in Building Services, where she worked as a technical auditor and researcher. In January 2018, she began working as a researcher on the MarRisk project at the University of Aveiro (for a period of six months), and in May 2018 she defended her PhD thesis at the same institution. In August 2018, she began working as a civil engineer at R5 Consulting Engineers, while maintaining her connection to the University of Aveiro through the supervision of Master’s dissertations, scientific production, and knowledge transfer activities — namely through the application of her PhD research results in professional contexts. This collaboration led to the creation of R5 Marine Solutions, a spin-off of R5 Consulting Engineers and the University of Aveiro in the marine sector, based on the COAST software developed during her doctoral studies. Also in 2018, she started teaching in the evening programme at Universidade Lusófona – Porto University Centre, a position she still holds. She was also a lecturer at ISCIA – Higher Institute of Information and Administration Sciences during the 2019/2020 academic year. In August 2020, she returned to the University of Aveiro as the lead researcher of the INCCA project – Integrated Climate Change Adaptation for Resilient Communities, while simultaneously continuing her work at R5 Marine Solutions (e.g. the COAST4US project) and teaching at Universidade Lusófona. In September 2021, she took on a full-time position as Assistant Professor at Universidade Lusófona – Porto University Centre, a role she continues to hold. She also continued as a full-time researcher on the INCCA project until April 2023. From September 2023 to April 2024, she was involved in the AX-COAST project at the University of Aveiro, also as a full-time researcher. Currently, Márcia Lima is an Assistant Professor at Universidade Lusófona in Porto and a researcher at CERIS – Research Centre for Innovation in Civil Engineering for Sustainability (University of Aveiro branch). She is a consultant at R5 Marine Solutions, Portuguese representative of Young Professionals at PIANC – The World Association for Waterborne Transport Infrastructure, President of the Central Region Branch of the Portuguese Water Resources Association (APRH), a member of APRH’s Coastal and Marine Zones Specialized Commission, and part of the Aveiro District Delegation of the Portuguese Engineers Association.
