Syllabus
1. Introduction 2. Ethical dimension of research. 3. Aspects to consider in a research development. 4. Problem and research hypotheses determination. 5. Main approaches and research methods - classification and characteristics. 6. Quantitative and qualitative methodologies: advantages, limitations and complementarities. 7. Overview of research models for scientific research: experimental, surveys, ethnographic studies, theoretical sampling, narrative research, case studies, action research, and evaluation research. 8. Methods selection according to the research goals. 9. State of the art and reference research. 10. Processing and data analysis. 11. Presentation and discussion of results. 12. Preparation and presentation of a dissertation and other research documents (reports and articles). 13. International Standards for engineering articles.

Objectives
It is intended that the student is able to: 1. Identify and critically evaluate a variety of scientific methods used in scientific and applied research. 2. Identify concepts and authors who contributed to the evolution of knowledge in a study context. 3. Understand and recognize different methodologies that can be applied in different contexts and use different tools. 4. Have a complete, consistent and ethical involvement in research work. 5. Understand the advantages and limitations of quantitative and qualitative methods. 6. Develop practical skills to enable the data collection, data analysis and present results. 7. Analyse, discuss and produce a scientific document. 8. Understand the research project design assumptions

Teaching methodologies and assessment
Lectures will be taught theoretical and practical classes with fundamentally expository character, with systematic use of audio-visual materials. Subsequently the acquired knowledge will be applied individually or in groups in specific contexts (articulation between the theoretical rationale presented by the teacher and group work, analysis of articles and practical application of the contents covered).
