This curricular unit aims to develop skills for the practice of research, namely in terms of the design, planning and conducting of research. It also aims to develop critical reflection skills to question the problems that are encountered in educational practice and to seek information to answer these problems and investigate the effectiveness of these solutions.

PC1 Specificities and foundations of research methodologies in Social and Human Sciences and Education. 1.1 Epistemological issues within the quantitative and qualitative paradigms. PC2. Ethics in scientific research in Education. PC3. The scientific research process: nature and characteristics; elements of a research plan. 3.1 Formulating the problem and research questions 3.2 The role of theory. Literature review: meaning and importance of scientific updating 3.3 Research methods: characteristics, methods of application and validation, potential and limits. 3.3.1 Case studies/multi-case studies 3.3.2 Observation 3.3.3 In-depth interviews 3.3.4 Questionnaire survey; 3.3.5 Interview survey. 3.3.6 Action research. 3.4 Analysing data 3.5 Problems of validating and generalising results.
