Exhibition "Theatre is on the Street"

Exhibition of works by ULusófona students on the transformations of 25 April 1974

Start April 27 | 10h00 End May 5 | 18h00

Opening of the exhibition works by 3rd year Communication Design degree students, on April 27th at 4 p.m. in the garden of the National Theater and Dance Museum. The exhibition is on view at the MNTD Temporary Exhibition Gallery, until May 5th.

"Theatre is on the Street" gives the title to a set of projects developed by undergraduate students in Visual Arts and Communication Design at Universidade Lusófona, in response to the invitation of the National Theater and Dance Museum to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the April Revolution.

Students were challenged to reflect on the transformations that the revolution and democratic transition had on the social and cultural fabric of our country, from 1974 to the present day, with the theme being the evolution of theater in this period. The proposals that are presented come from contact with archive material from the Museum and aim to bring to the present issues that students - who did not experience this process of government change - feel are relevant. Its critical and reflective dimension is materialized in a series of outdoor interventions, both in the museum gardens and in public spaces.

The challenge results in two parallel exhibitions: a series of graphic installations that students in the 3 year of the degree in Design present in the Museum's gardens and a paste-up mural, created collectively by students in the 2nd year of the degree in Visual Arts, for the exterior walls of the Lumiar Senior University, with the support of the respective Parish Council. All these proposals are also translated into a series of posters, which will be exhibited in the Temporary Exhibitions Gallery from April 27th to May 5th.
