Presentation
The ADVANCED PRODUCTION DESIGN ATELIER curricular unit aims to provide students with the theoretical and practical tools needed to develop projects in the area of production design (set, costume and makeup & hair design) for cinematographic content that requires either intervention on natural decors or construction in the studio, in both theoretical and practical terms. With a strong laboratory component, it takes as its point of reference the three fundamental axes for making projects viable: aesthetics, technique and production. It aims to provide knowledge of the aesthetic approach and foster the creative process through the various premises of visual language as a driving force, along with an understanding of the economic, cultural and ethical context of the art department as a practice.

Objectives
Objectives
The course trains students to develop art direction projects applied to cinematographic content (short films), in its main areas of intervention and in the different stages of production. Students will conceive and execute the production design for a transversal project (FINAL COURSE PROJECT), taking on specific roles in the art department. The aim is for students to: understand the structure and function of the art department; analyse and structure critical thinking regarding the visual potential offered by a script, considering the expressive-dramatic, atmospheric, representative/artificial, symbolic and aesthetic components of production design; structure a plastic unit that is coherent with the narrative and adjusted to the content, justifying their decisions; evaluate artistic and technical priorities, making appropriate use of the logistical resources at their disposal; be able to execute the concept developed;

Teaching methodologies and assessment
Teaching methodologies and assessment
The teaching methodology raises awareness of the themes presented, develops spaces for discussion and problem-solving, promoting the development and sharing of practical exercises (challenges), in a transversal and collaborative process. The challenges, which will be analysed collectively in class, are intended to respond to the assimilation of theoretical knowledge and the conception and development of the production design project for cinematographic content (short film), which cuts across several curricular units in the semester. During the preparation and editing phase, the aim is for students to understand the responsibility of each position taken on, but also to work as a group, encouraging teamwork. Software will be used to enable collaborative practice during the work process.
