Presentation
The course can be considered as a natural starting point, identify and analyzing the structure of modern companies. The transmission of knowledge and methods associated to making decisions are the main objectives of the course. Students are given an overview of key economic issues and methods and are presented with the various functional units that a company is constituted. The course allows students to further develop the knowledge to understand, articulate, create and comment a theory underlying sustainable development and how companies attempt to integrate these approaches into their listed business practices. In addition, students are introduced to the basic concepts, methods and practices of accounting, and students do not need any prior knowledge of the subject. However, as the manipulation of data expressed in terms of accounting, students must have a background in mathematics.

Objectives
Objectives
Biotechnology and Bioeconomy are areas of multidisciplinary knowledge that aim to study and present solutions in various fields such as industrial biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, development of new biomaterials, biosensors, nanotechnology. In this curricular unit, themes and concepts related to the various aspects of biotechnology and bioeconomy and the role played by professionals in this area in the search for more adequate solutions for society are addressed. It is intended that students acquire a realistic perspective of the applicability of Biotechnology and Bioeconomy in solving concrete problems, master the basic concepts in the fundamental sciences as well as the organization of production processes based on sustainable development.

Teaching methodologies and assessment
The teaching of the curricular unit is based on theoretical classes consisting, in essence, of expository sessions, seminars, debates that serve to introduce the fundamental concepts of the discipline associated with each of the topics covered. Students are encouraged to search different platforms for information on subjects to be discussed in class.
