This curricular unit is an introduction to the scientific method and to scientific culture within computer science. Students learn basic theoretical concepts regarding scientific investigation, as well techniques and tools to improve their activity as researchers. The theoretical and practical knowledge acquired in this course is to be applied in the remaining curricular units of the MsC, as well as in the research and writing process leading up to the thesis.

Objectives
Objectives
The main objective of this curricular unit is to promote in students the acquisition of basic and advanced competences in procedures and methods of investigation with particular emphasis in the area of computing and information systems. Further objectives include the acquisition of transversal competences in this field, in particular those relating to the ability to understand, present and write scientific information.
