Class Engineering Laboratories II

  • Presentation

    Presentation

This CU aims to expand the laboratory work capacity acquired in Engineering Laboratories I, contributing to the mastery of fundamental techniques and concepts related to the experimental side of many areas of engineering work. Deepen knowledge in the field of instrumentation and measurement.

  • Syllabus

    Syllabus

Deepening the methods inherent in carrying out laboratory work/experiences. Measurement and measurement error: sources of error, quantification of error and its minimisation, concepts of accuracy and precision. Carrying out a set of tasks/experiments to analyse the use of signal conditioning circuits and their influence on measurements. Measurement of electrical quantities in direct and alternating current: voltage, current, resistance/impedance, power and energy. Frequency measurement and digital counting. Digital counters. Laboratory implementation of small projects related to energy systems, based on Arduino/Raspberry Pi and development kits, sensors, actuators, etc.
  • Objectives

    Objectives

Deepen knowledge of laboratory experiments and their stages. Consolidate knowledge about making measurements and their errors. Increase their knowledge of the measuring equipment/instruments used in laboratories. Improve their practical knowledge of electrical, electronic and digital circuits Understand and use signal conditioning circuits to measure certain electrical quantities. Know the influence of microprocessor-based circuits on the measurement of electrical quantities. Be able to carry out more complex laboratory experiments.
  • Teaching methodologies and assessment

    Teaching methodologies and assessment

Classes will favour the experimental component whenever possible in PBL format and will be entirely of the laboratory practice type. Classes will include short introductions/oral explanations of some of the concepts inherent to the laboratory and its equipment. The work/experiments to be carried out in the laboratory will be the result of the PLB work carried out and the teacher's support in making adjustments in order to standardise the work between the groups. The work/experiments will be carried out in groups, under the guidance and support of the teacher. Over the course of the semester, and gradually and increasingly, the practical work will become less directed and will require greater autonomy from the students.  The laboratory work will be documented in a comprehensive and structured way, forming a portfolio that will be an assessment tool. Continuous Assessment with Final Test Weighting: Practical group work (80%) + Written test (20%)
