Presentation
The human body functions allow us to take part in a huge variety of sports and exercise activities. In these activities: The skeletal and muscular systems work together to allow our bodies to perform a vast range of different movements; and Our cardiovascular and respiratory systems act as a delivery service, working together to supply oxygen and nutrients to the body which in turn is used to produce energy for muscular contraction. In accordance, this unit: Explores the structure and function of the skeletal, muscular, cardiovascular, and respiratory systems (fundamentals of the energy systems and nervous control of the muscular system are also investigated). Allows the structure and function of each system to be examined and applied to sports and exercise activities.

Objectives
Objectives
This unit will cover the basic knowledge of biological principles governing the human body and enable students to gain a basic understanding of how body systems relate to human performance. In accordance, this unit aims to introduce the basic anatomy of the skeleton, joints, and muscles, and include consideration of the muscle physiology and physiology of the cardiovascular and respiratory systems. On completion of this unit, a learner should: (A1) Describe and understand the specific terms associated with human motion and movement. (A2) Describe and understand the structure and function of the skeletal and articular systems and explain how these systems are applied to human performance. (A3) Describe and understand the muscular and nervous systems and explain how these systems are applied to human performance. (A4) Describe and understand the basic structure and function of the cardiovascular and respiratory systems and be able to recognize their major components.

Teaching methodologies and assessment
Teaching methodologies and assessment
Teaching methodologies include theoretical (T) and theoretical-practical (TP) sessions. The theoretical knowledge is reinforced through TP sessions. Theoretical-practical activities include the use of models (and/or images) and videos to reinforce theoretical knowledge. The b-learning system is used with the aid of the Moodle platform, which makes the support materials available for each one of the classes. Continuous assessment (0 to 20 values): Four evaluation moments, i.e., four theoretical evaluations (tests T1 to T4). All evaluation moments must have a classification ≥9.5 values. Final score = T1*0.25 + T2*0.25 + T3*0.25 + T4*0.25. Exam (0 to 20 values): This is done in the form of written and oral examinations (mandatory if classification in written test ≥9.5 values). In both situations, the final classification must be ≥9.5 values to be successful in the CU.
