Statistics is the branch of mathematics that deals with the collection, analysis and interpretation of data, through an adequate methodology and procedures. The statistic is essential in all sciences, and also in sports. For academics and professionals in the various areas related to physical education and sports, without exception, the statistic is an indispensable tool in your practice, e.g., controlling students' learning in school, monitoring the development of athletes, evaluating the effect of training in the gym. Thus, the knowledge and skills developed in this CU are fundamental to our students, future sports¿ professional and academics.

  • Objectives

    Objectives

    1. Understand the statistic as an essential tool in solving problems, Describe the various phases of the statistical method, exemplifying each one of them. 2. Distinguish between descriptive and inferential analysis, Describe a sample, Indicate appropriate inferential procedures, Interpret, relate and discuss descriptive and inferential results. 3. Planning and executing autonomously the statistical method, from the sample definition to the data analysis, for a given problem/objectives/hypotheses.
  • Teaching methodologies and assessment

    Teaching methodologies and assessment

The innovative methodologies to support the teaching-learning process thought: Active and creative learning (students think about research problems according to their experience, their interest, they can work on problems not only in sport since the objectives of the UC are transversal to any area);   Project-based learning, problems and teamwork (whenever possible, students will work in groups);   Hybrid teaching (students and the teacher may assume different dynamics in each class, according to the defined objectives).
