    This option, within the scope of Pure Swimming, aims to equip students with essential skills in the process of prescription and assessment of the young athlete's training process, through the application of appropriate loads according to the swimmer's stage of development. The process of applying loads requires a broad set of general knowledge and, above all, specific skills, whose results manifest in complex adaptive processes in the short, medium, and long term. Thus, mastering the subjects concerning Motor Skills - Strength, Endurance, Speed, Flexibility, and Coordination, the technical and technical-tactical components, the observation and assessment process, embodied in long, medium, and short-term periodization processes, will be absolutely decisive for the success of this curricular unit.

    The fundamental program contents are directly related to the training of children and young people (Cadets, Infants, and Youth) in Pure Swimming, namely: 1. Institutional Organization and Regulations; 2. Profile and Career of the Coach; 3. Biomechanics of Swimming; 4. Description and analysis of swimming techniques and their respective starts, turns, finishes, and relays; 5. Technical and technical-tactical training; 6. Development of physical and motor skills in young swimmers; 7. Long-term swimmer preparation model; 8. Training planning and periodization.
  • Objectives

    Objectives

    The U.C. aims to primarily promote the acquisition of knowledge and skills necessary for the intervention of the coach, within the scope of the training and competition process in Pure Swimming, at the different stages of the young swimmer's development. Its central learning objectives are: 1. To master and relate the contents of the training process in Pure Swimming in terms of physical technical, technical-tactical, and organizational plans. 2. To prescribe training programs, organizing and managing the entire training and competition process. 3. To use appropriate terminology and intervention strategies for different situations for each category (Cadets, Children, and Youth). 4. To cooperate in the preparation, development, and evaluation of the sports project of institutions. 5. To identify each phase and moment of the swimmer's development, using appropriate assessment methods.

    Teaching methodologies and assessment

    Students carry out their work alongside teams that stand out in competitive Swimming preparation, promoting understanding and knowledge of the training process through observation and dialogue with coaches, followed by reflection. The work they do aims at the simulated practice of prescribing and leading the training of young athletes in competitive swimming.
