Class Evolutionary Psychology

  • Presentation

    Presentation

This Curricular Unit presents what is traditionally considered as a dichotomy, behavior, culture and learning on the one hand and evolution and genetic aspects on the other, as two aspects that are complementary and inseparable from each other in human nature. The fundamental questions of psychology and psychopathology are presented as a result of the interaction between the genetic and environmental and cultural aspects, namely cognitive biases and emotional disorders such as anxiety, depression and hiperactivity.

  • Objectives

    Objectives

The general objectives of this UC are to give knowledge of the conceptual foundations derived from natural sciences and cognitive psychology that support evolutionary psychology as an explanatory model of universal human behavior based on the evolution and adaptation of the species, and to present the application of its principles in the understanding of basic and universal human phenomena and their disorders. At the end of UC students should: LO1 - describe the integration of cognitive psychology with the knowledge of evolutionary biology, LO2 - apply the knowledge of evolutionary psychology to the understanding of the basic and universal phenomena of human experience (survival, food, sexuality, family and social relationships), their disorders (anxiety, depression and eating disorders) and to LO3 - know and reflect on the criticisms of the models of evolutionary psychology.
  • Teaching methodologies and assessment

    Teaching methodologies and assessment

There are several teaching methodologies used in this Curricular Unit. The theoretical classes use the expository teaching methodology for the presentation of content and are supported by the use of slides. Student participation in classes is promoted through interrogative teaching methodologies that also promote dialogue and debate among students. The active methodology is reflected in the development of exercises, for example, reading and analyzing scientific articles, viewing and discussing documentaries, among others. The hybrid methodology is present in the use of Moodle for the distribution of materials, as well as the promotion of online research tasks that constitute activities in which technology is used in the acquisition of knowledge. In addition, tutoring activities are planned for carrying out the students' assessment work.
