    The Curricular Unit (CU) Brain and Behavior is an introductory discipline that aims to deepen the students' knowledge about brain-behavior relationships. The program and contents of the CU take into account the articulation with previous courses but works independently. This CU allows students to deepen the knowledge they acquired in the CU Biological Foundations of Behavior and contributes to the acquisition of fundamental theoretical and conceptual knowledge which will be the focus of analysis in the CU Neuropsychology. The main objectives of this CU are: (a) to  deepen the understanding of brain-behavior relationships and (b) to enable contact with scientific methodologies in this area of study. Thus, this course is a unique contribution to the training of students at initial levels.

    The main learning outcomes (LO) are to: LO1: Understand how the nervous system (NS) interacts with the brain and behavior LO2: Distinguish the main contributions of neuroscience methods for studying the NS (fMRI, TMS, EEF, etc.) LO3: Describe the structure and function of the NS LO4: Understand and describe the phylogeny of the NS throughout human evolution LO5: Understand and describe the embryonic-fetal and ontogenic development of the NS LO6: Understand the role of regulatory systems dependent on the NS (e.g., neuroendocrine and immune systems) LO7: Describe the main cognitive processes and structures in the human brain and understand the nature of information processing LO8: Describe the main limbic processes and structures in the human brain and the mechanisms of emotion regulation LO9: Identify emerging topics in neurosciences
  • Teaching methodologies and assessment

    Teaching methodologies and assessment

    Different teaching methodologies will be used, including evidence-based pedagogical innovative practices. Classes combine expository methods (TM1), viewing and analysis of documentaries (TM2), small group activities (TM3), tutorial classes between the professor and students for the preparation of academic works (TM4), peer review process (TM5), and feedback from the professor (TM6). Continuous evaluation implies frequency following the General Evaluation Regulation (in addition to supplementary instructions issued by competent organs). The evaluation results from: 50% - two written tests; 50% -. Workgroup with oral presentation. The minimum grade in each component is 8,5 points (9.5 in aggregate). Students who do not pass the continuous assessment will have access to the final exam (100%). Students need to attend 75% of the classes to be assessed under continuous evaluation.
