The uc seeks to create skills for the production of theoretical knowledge to understand the changes and aspects (economic, political, legal, ...) of work and organizations in contemporary societies and to support the opening to new decision and intervention guidelines (strategic , political, cultural, environmental ...), in the contexts of globalization and the expansion of artificial intelligence (algorithms, robots, social networks), in contemporary economies and societies of "network, knowledge" and uncertainty.

The place and value of work in a historical perspective, in the current context and in the societies that are envisaged. The Evolution of work in contemporary societies. Transformations in the organization of work and its forms of provision. Work in the processes of social change and transformation in the development of society with a focus on Portugal. Organizations in general and in particular those working in the world of work: origins, paths, objectives, practices.

Objectives
To situate characteristics and roles of organizations in societies in the era of globalization, in time for the perspective of a new world era, considering the old economy, the knowledge economy, the networked society, the dominance of multinationals, institutionalized individualism. The political, economic, social and cultural transformations that mark the transition from industrial society to post-industrial society and the present. Understanding work organization schools. The potential and the weakening of social movements and organizations, in its historical path. Identification and analysis, on the one hand, of the (in) stability (in) security, (in) equality that characterize the precariousness at work, on the other, identification and analysis of different forms of work organization. Role of professions and qualifications. Analysis of the evolutionary process of social actors, organizations and conflicts typical of today's society.
