Class Introduction to Veterinary Medicine

Theoretical-practical curricular unit that aim the introduction to primary concepts in veterinary medicine, especially in its various areas of practice: small animals medicine, livestock medicine and equine medicine.

The most common breeds and their particularities 5. Preventive medicine (vaccination bulletin), basics of deworming 6. Electronic identification, passport and other means of identification 7. Hygiene Care 8. Concepts of homeostasis - fluid therapy, monitoring; Blood bank 9. Practical asepsis techniques 10. Basic concepts of anesthesia 11. The Surgical Block 12. Preparation of the surgical patient 13. General approach to wounds 14. Healing techniques 15. Various types of dressings 16. Rehabilitation Medicine 17. Palliative Medicine 18. Approach to euthanasia in veterinary medicine 19. Equine medicine 20. Medicine for livestock (cattle, sheep and goats)

Mid-term continuous evaluation -Attendance of at least 2/3 of the lectures is mandatory and/3 of the practical/theorical-practical and laboratory lectures; -To pass a course in continuous evaluation, the student must obtain a rating equal to or greater than 9.5, in all evaluations, which include mini-tests, individual and group works, oral presentations and methods of supervised self-learning. -The final grade of the course is the weighted average of the theoretical and practical evaluation Exam regime: Attendance of at least 2/3 of the practical / theoretical-practical and laboratory classes is mandatory It is considered approved to the curricular unit the student who obtains a final grade of at least 9.5 in the practical and theoretical components Exception t for students with Student Worker Status and other applicable. For these cases, a supplementary assessment regime is applied f, which may include additional assignments, written and / or oral test, as defined by the teacher
