Physiology studies the processes that regulate the functions of living organisms at the molecular, cellular, and organ system levels. The optional curricular unit in Emerging Topics in Veterinary Physiology addresses some of the latest advances in the field of Physiology applied to domestic and wild animals. In this curricular unit, emerging topics of increasing importance in veterinary medicine will be explored, allowing students to keep up with some developments in veterinary physiology potentially associated with future challenges in clinical practice

Teaching methodologies and assessment
Informatic resources will be employed to facilitate active learning, using an e-learning platform and the Socrative software. During the tutorial guidance sessions the "Flipped learning" methodology will be implemented, involving discussion and analysis of scientific research articles relevant to the highlighted topics. Some of the practical classes may include simulation of laboratory experiments using the PhysioEx 10.0 software.
