Presentation
Presentation
This optional curricular unit will be a showcase of some lesser-known career opportunities in the veterinary profession. The Unconventional Careers in Veterinary Medicine curricular unit is a space for publicising the many and varied career paths available on the Integrated Master's Degree in Veterinary Medicine (MIMV), in addition to those that are better known to society. It is aimed at all 1st year MIMV students and is intended to encourage their knowledge, interest and ambition for career alternatives of equal value to civil and scientific society, but outside the clinical areas, which are generally seen as the most desirable for a Veterinarian.

The teaching sessions will also be organised in a forum format, where students will be given the opportunity to question their preferences and those of their classmates and to reflect on why they have certain interests. Opportunities to search for information on the topics covered will be created. Assessment will be carried out through an individual presentation of each student's career preference, where the justification for this preference should reflect an individual reflection on each student's past and future in the veterinary profession (60 per cent). Each presentation will then be assessed by the other students' peers, who will also receive a mark for the quality of their peer assessment (30 per cent). Participation in class forums will be assessed (10%). Ability to reflect, criticise and communicate are the criteria to be assessed. Passing is obtained with a minimum mark of 9.5.
