    This CU aims to introduce students to the latest topics in Biochemistry research/industrial production in the first person, i.e. by researchers who are developing these topics in their research or industrial production with whom they will interact. Students will have contact with the latest advances in different areas of biochemistry, motivating a taste for innovation.

    This CU will cover the latest developments in the following areas: 1. Environmental Biochemistry and Sustainability 2. Industrial Biochemistry and Biotechnology: 3. Developments in cancer research 4. Structural biochemistry 5. Biochemistry of Viruses and Vaccines 6. Gene Therapy and Gene Editing 7. Open Topic 1 8. Open topic 2 Open topics 1 and 2 should be proposed by the students.

    Objectives

    The main aim of the Emerging Topics in Biochemistry CU is to provide students with an up-to-date and in-depth overview of the latest developments and trends in the field of biochemistry. This subject aims to achieve objectives such as developing a taste for innovation, critical thinking and finding new solutions to old and new problems in the field. This CU ultimately aims to prepare students for a career in industry or research, where the ability to follow and understand the latest developments is fundamental.
  • Teaching methodologies and assessment

    Teaching methodologies and assessment

    Emerging Topics in Biochemistry, which will mostly be taught in the form of seminars as described above, in which personalities linked to the academic or industrial world will speak about important topics currently discussed in the field of biochemistry, and which will be followed by a period of questioning and discussion. In this case, 6 of the topics will be proposed by the teacher in charge and 2 by the students according to their preferences. This choice will be made as a result of a consensus between the students, promoting their capacity for dialogue and argumentation as well as the search for consensus in order to achieve objectives. The aim of this course is to develop an appetite for innovation and to motivate students to delve deeper into biochemistry in the areas they consider most important.
