Understand the complexity of costume design. Have a historical view of costume design. Understand the relationship between the arts and costume design: communication, production, and identity. Identify the concepts and phenomena that involve costume design in the 20th and 21st centuries. Meet the costume designer professionals in Portugal. Ability to understand the dimension of language and communication that operates through costume design and its relationship with others and the world of contemporary imagery.

    1. Literary, historical and visual research for creating a costume design. Case analysis and practical research and concept development exercises. 2. The creative process in creating a costume design.The different stages, variables, processes, and challenges. 3. The importance of choosing materials when creating a costume design. 4. Creation of a costume design. 5. The elaboration of a costume design project.

    Objectives

    1. Know Costume Design in the World and Portugal: contact national costume designers to learn about the reality of each one; 2. Know methods of visual research and research of concepts for costume development; 3. Know and deepen the creative process in the development of costumes; 4. Plan and design a costume design. 5. Know and deepen techniques of presentation and development of a costume, from the initial idea to the final product.
  • Teaching methodologies and assessment

    Teaching methodologies and assessment

    Through visual presentations, there will be focused aspects of research and analysis of costume designs. In the classroom context, the work and an autonomous work regime will be developed to be carried out in class. The work typology is essentially practical, assuming research, planning and execution.
