The objective of the UC is to develop students with the essential knowledge to understand the general concepts of military and business logistics, and to be able to apply them in the context of Civil Protection. In this way, it develops the following specific skills:
1. Train to understand the importance of logistics as a critical and decisive activity for the success of an activity/operation, and constituting itself as a strategic resource for decision-makers in supporting decision-making;
2. Train to understand general notions of logistics both in the military and in the business plan, in particular its concepts, principles and support modalities/models;
3. Train to operationalize logistical support modalities adapted to situations of Civil Protection operational activity.

S1: The evolution of the concept of logistics and its principles adopted by the Portuguese Army;
S2: The logistical functions adopted by the Portuguese Army;
S3: Logistics management in the business context: Cycles, activities, main concepts and challenges;
S4: The organization of logistical support in military operations in the Theater of Operations (TO);
S5: Logistic support in International Organizations (NATO and UN): Support concepts, principles, planning/phases, structures and support modalities;
S6: The stages of the military decision-making process and logistical planning;
S7: Prepare logistical estimates, plan movements, prepare logistical documents and report the logistical situation;
S8: Framing, coordination and execution of logistical support activities in the structure and operations of civil protection;
S9: Given an Exercise/tactical theme, follow the military decision process in the role of coordinator of a TO Operational Logistics Cell.

Objectives
LO1 – Identify the evolution of the concept of logistics and its principles;
LO2 – Identify the fundamental concepts of the different logistic functions;
LO3 – Know the management of logistics in the business context and its main concepts and challenges;
LO4 – Identify the organization of logistical support in a Theater of Operations (TO);
LO5 - Identify logistical support in International Organizations (NATO and UN);
OA6 – Include logistical planning in the decision-making process, in particular the phases of mission analysis and preparation of plans and orders;
LO7 – Knowing the framework, coordination and execution of logistical support activities in the structure and operations of civil protection;
LO8 – Relate the doctrinal principles and concepts of logistics with the attributions of the operational logistics cell of the TO (in the support zone, in the concentration and reserve zone, and in the zone for receiving reinforcements).

Teaching methodologies and assessment
This UC is essentially theoretical-practical, using the following teaching methods:
- Lesson, to present the theoretical frameworks of reference;
- Directed discussion, case studies, and analysis of scientific articles, with the aim of consolidating doctrinal knowledge and knowing the application of logistics in organizations and Civil Protection;
- Elaboration of an Exercise/tactical theme, in group, with the presentation of briefings, debate and elaboration of logistical documents, with the purpose of evaluating knowledge;
- Elaboration of an Individual/Group Research Work in the form of a Doctrinal Publication about logistics in Civil Protection, with the purpose of evaluating knowledge.
Final classification:
- Elaboration of Exercise/tactical theme (30%);
- Individual/Group Research Work (70%).
