    This UC aims to promote among students the application, in an exercise context, of the skills acquired in terms of managing and directing rescue operations and civil protection operations in the face of simulated responses to different emergency situations. The student develops the following specific skills:

    1. Ability to play the role of Commander at a Command Post;
    2. Ability to manage, lead and communicate with a Command Post team;
    3. Ability to carry out the strategic planning of an operation applying the operational decision process;
    4. Ability to apply decision-making support processes and systems;
    5. Ability to communicate effectively with the forces and entities present, as well as with the media;
    6. Ability to implement a command and control structure for the operation;
    7. Capacity to carry out the transfer of command of the operation;
    8. Ability to identify conclusions and recommendations for future operations.

  • Objectives

    Objectives

    LO1: Apply the operations management systems, standards and procedures in occurrences of different types;
    LO2: Employ the appropriate leadership and communication styles for managing the Command Post team;
    LO3: Use the principles of organization and functioning of a General Staff within the scope of the decision-making process;
    LO4: Employ information systems and technologies to support decision-making;
    LO5: Develop a strategic plan of action suited to the type of operation;
    LO6: Implement an effective communication strategy with the forces and entities involved in the operation, as well as in the relationship with the media;
    LO7: Apply the coordination, command and control tools of the operation;
    LO8: Use the correct procedures for transferring command of the operation.
    LO9: Identify conclusions and recommendations for future operations.

  • Teaching methodologies and assessment

    Teaching methodologies and assessment

    The methodologies used in the UC correspond to:
    - Expository method, using the projection of slides, to present the theoretical reference frameworks. Dialogued exposition technique, in which the trainee participates in the session and comments;
    - Interrogative method in which trainees answer questions posed by the trainer;
    - Active method using the simulation technique, namely using a virtual reality system to carry out simulated practices in response to emergency situations.
    The students' assessment is carried out in accordance with the university's assessment regulations and, with the following assessment moments: Continuous Assessment (presence in classes, participation in classes and carrying out exercises) (100%); or a Final Exam (100%) at exam time.
