Contemporary societies are shaken by risk situations and behaviours, which cover all socio-economic and cultural segments, and also affect different age groups. These are phenomena that have shown persistence (e.g. addictive behaviours, violence in various forms, from family violence to bullying, failure and dropping out of school), with varying levels of severity. At the same time, living conditions have also led to the emergence of other problems that require specialised approaches, such as formal and informal care for the elderly, support for students with special educational needs and the new dimensions of citizenship and fundamental rights. It is therefore necessary to respond to these social demands by training technicians, based not only on theoretical foundations but also with practical support, guaranteed by the practices developed in the workplace.
A number of organisations are making increasing use of the services of technicians specifically trained for this intervention: local authorities, prisons, private social solidarity institutions, drug rehabilitation centres, child and youth protection committees, old people's homes and day centres, schools and trade unions.
The preparation of qualified professionals with competences in these areas is the central aim of this postgraduate programme.
