This course covers the resources used to protect the identity, data and other resources of Internet users. Practical issues such as obtaining and using digital certificates to protect web servers or email messages, and signing and validating digital documents are covered.

Knowledge, abilities and skills to be acquired

Familiarisation with the basic principles of cryptography. Understand what certificates and digital signatures are. Understand the advantages of digital signatures over conventional signatures. Understand the scope of use of the different types of digital certificates. Be able to request and use digital certificates, and to sign and validate digital documents.
