    The Research Methodologies Curricular Unit is crucial. This uc develops understanding of the social, epistemological and methodological dimensions of research, preparing students to design, innovate and manage a research project and its development. Students learn to research and identify references, develop knowledge about innovation and invention, and stimulate creativity in research. The UC teaches you how to define strategies to prepare a project according to financing requirements. This UC is fundamental in the study cycle, as it enables students to prepare research projects. In the end, students will be able to apply the skills acquired in real research contexts, contributing to scientific and technological advancement.

    1- General aspects of scientific methodology. 2- Main stages of the research process: planning, implementation, communication and valuation. 3- Investigation as a decision-making system. 4- General processes of writing, presentation, and publication of scientific papers. 5- Digital tools and computer applications for searching and selecting documental information. 6- Computer applications used in research planning. 7- Conceptualization of research questions and the rationale to justify the pertinence of investigating a topic in the field of Natural Bioactives. 8- Basic concepts of ethics in communication.

    Objectives

    Develop an understanding of the social, epistemological, economic and methodological dimensions of research as a support for its design and dissemination. Promoting the ability to design projects, innovate and manage research and experimental development, from the conception of the idea to the result for the market and society. Knowing how to research and identify references to prepare research projects. Develop knowledge about the concepts of innovation and invention. Stimulate creativity in research and the registration of inventions. Students should, at the end of their studies, be able to: define a strategy to prepare projects according to the application requirements for national or international funding, applying the skills to research, identify, and choose acquired methods and techniques. Know the entities (national and international), conditions and procedures for submitting applications and for registering patents or other intellectual protection.

    Teaching methodologies and assessment

    The course consists mainly of individual-themed work sessions, oriented with lecture moments, research by students of scientific publications to ensure the description of the state of the art of each topic in Systematic Review mode whenever applicable, and group seminars including critical analysis of scientific articles (literature review clubs) and presentations by students.
