    This course aims to frame renewable energy in the context of general energy and electrical energy in particular. The course is oriented towards producing electrical energy from renewable sources, generally addressing current and future technologies, such as hydro, wind, solar, oceanic, geothermal and biomass. The course also addresses the importance that renewable energies will have in the development of the hydrogen market.

    Objectives

    The objectives of the renewable energy course imply the acquisition of knowledge: - About the relationship between climate change and its impact on the environment and energy resources. - Concept of renewable and non-renewable energy. - Concepts of primary, final, useful energy and energy supply. - About the main technologies for the use of renewable energy sources, namely: Solar thermal and Photovoltaic, Wind, Biomass, Geothermal, Oceanic and Hydroelectric. - Advantages and disadvantages of technologies for using renewable sources. - Self-consumption, energy and storage communities. - Main goals and objectives at national and European level. - Legal framework for renewable energy in Portugal. - Future importance of renewable energies. - Decarbonization and energy systems. - Approximate sizing of conversion systems. - Importance of renewable energies in the hydrogen market.

    Teaching methodologies and assessment

    The Renewable Energy UC is divided into two components - theoretical classes and theoretical-practical classes. In theoretical classes, knowledge will be simultaneously transmitted either by formal exposition of the contents related to the UC, or by interpellative methods, raising theoretical questions related to the subject's theme, with the aim of encouraging the intervention and participation of students. In theoretical-practical classes, students will be encouraged to solve problems on worksheets relating to the various themes covered in the theoretical classes of this course. According to the ULP Assessment Regulations, the assessment will be continuous and consists of two components:   Two practical assignments: Presentation (15% of the final classification) Practical work (20% of the final grade)   Two evaluation tests: 1st Test (30% of the final grade) 2nd Test (30% of the final grade)
