Class Transport and Distribution Networks

  • Presentation

    Presentation

    This CU aims to provide the student with the main concepts related to the electric transmission and distribution networks. The main objectives to be achieved are the following: - Knowledge of the planning, design and operation of electric transmission and distribution networks; - Knowledge of the main equipment and techniques used in the design and operation of overhead and underground power transmission and distribution lines; - Knowledge of reliability analysis of distribution systems, radial and meshed, with and without distributed generation;

    National Transmission Network and its operator Transmission vs. distribution networks Characterization, constitution and exploration Structures of these networks: overhead and underground Rural networks and urban networks Underground cable networks: constitution of various types of underground cables, assembly, testing and fault location Electrical and thermal characteristics of underground cables Reliability in distribution networks Minimum Cut Method Interruptor Auto-Recloser placement and establishment of open mesh to improve reliability Planning the injection of reactive power into the distribution network Simplified methods of locating reactive compensation Basis for sizing overhead distribution lines Electrical calculations Mechanical calculations
  • Objectives

    Objectives

    To know the main technical characteristics of transmission and distribution networks; To determine the reliability of electrical networks using probabilistic methods. To determine the location of interruptor auto-reclosers in radial distribution networks; To determine the location of capacitor banks in distribution networks. To master the basic concepts for the design of high voltage overhead lines (electrical and mechanical calculation).
  • Teaching methodologies and assessment

    Teaching methodologies and assessment

    Teaching in this CU is based on theoretical and theoretical-practical classes. Theoretical classes are used to expose the new concepts through expository sessions covering the main topics of the subject to be taught. Theoretical-practical classes are designed to consolidate the theoretical concepts presented and to carry out practical work, always with the help of the teacher, but seeking to promote greater autonomy, learning and solidification of the knowledge acquired by the student. Continuous evaluation.
