This curricular unit aims to discuss the current relevance of Lusophony in a globalized world, in particular in the seven countries that with Portugal constitute eight states that share the same language and are part of the organization known as Comunidade de Países de Língua Portuguesa (CPLP). Lusophony will be perennial, regardless of conjunctures and ties that were being established or renewed. This reasoning implies that we go back in time, particularly to the Revolution of April 25, 1974, whose consequences dictate, after 13 years of a colonial war in three fronts, the dissolution of the last Western empire and the establishment of new political relations and cooperation with new sovereign states and the «European option» as a new horizon of the Portuguese foreign policy. So, we chase the political and socioeconomic transformations of the lusophone space in the last decades.

Objectives
Identify the countries that make part of the lusophone space and the common cultural ties; Frame historically the concept of lusophony and the political realization of the idea; Study the impact of Portuguese decolonization and the effects of the colonial war on the metropolis and colonies; Recognize that the end of the Portuguese empire authorize a new political relationship with the newly formed states; Know the economic and social indicators of Portuguese-speaking countries over the last decades; Emphasize the original character of the Comunidade dos Países de Língua Portuguesa (CPLP); Highlight Brazil’s role in the American market and its potential for relations with Africa and the European Union through Portugal; Underline the potential of African and Eastern integration as an axis for strengthening lusophony; Inquire about the economic relations between Portugal and the lusosphere;

Teaching methodologies and assessment
Teaching methodologies and assessment
Classes draw on the exposition, debate and deepening of the topics encompassed by the syllabus. Participation of the students will be encouraged in order to reinforce learning, assuming greater relevance on the moment of analysis and presentation of working groups related to topics taught in class. The contínuous evaluation encompasses: written exam (50%) and one written group paper with respected oral presentation by each of the members (50%).
