1º Economic and Social History at the confluence with the other social sciences The place of Economic History in social knowledge The historiographical 'revolution' introduced by the Annales The Braudelian conception of long duration and the New History Evolution, perspectives and strengths of Economic and Social History 2º Thematic block - Economy and Society: from the Old Regime to the XX century Characterization of the historical period called "Old Regime" The economic structure of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries: agriculture, manufactures, the great colonial trade The industrialization process Essential characteristics of the Portuguese society of the "Old Regime" The liberal revolutions and socio-economic transformations of the western world between the late eighteenth and mid-nineteenth centuries The European "imperial" domain of the late nineteenth century The ecomony and society between Wars The Great Depression and Crisis Solutions The post-war economic and social transformations

Teaching methodologies and assessment
Teaching methodologies and assessment
The method is theoretical-practical, using active methodologies (problem-based learning). It is based on the presentation and exposition of the syllabus, using, when relevant, the reading and analysis of texts, in order to promote student participation in the critical discussion of the issues presented. The assessment is continuous, in accordance with the Lusófona University Assessment Regulations. The AC consists in two tests, a work (written and oral) and participation in classes. The tests is worth 50%, and will be taken during the semester. The work has a total value of 40%. The student's performance in classes has a value of 10%. The final classification must be equal to or greater than 10 points.
