The Curricular Unit intends to provide students with technical principles about textile materials and processes for fashion. Which are currently used by the textile and clothing industry (ITV). These principles aim to serve two main objectives of knowing the different types of textile fibres and their applications and establishing the relationship between textile materials and their applications. Students should be familiarized with textile materials that can be used in clothing and fashion design.

1. Introduction to the study of materials Textile fibres (definition, classification, symbolism, world fibre consumption) 2. Characteristics and properties of the main textile materials Characteristics. Relation between the properties of fibres and their use/application. 3. Stages for the transformation of fibre into thread and thread into the fabric Textile processing states. Yarn manufacturing processes. Fabric manufacturing processes. Textile Finishing 4. Innovative materials and technologies New textile materials. Functional materials, technical materials, intelligent materials (definition, classification, characteristics and main applications). New sustainable fibres (definition, characteristics, production process and main applications).

Know the different types of textile fibres and their applications; Establish the relationship between textile materials and their applications; Identify the main stages and technologies of the different textile transformation processes: from fibre to fabric; Know the innovative materials and their applications.

Teaching methodologies and assessment
The curricular unit will be developed through expository sessions, discussion of written and audiovisual texts and a research work on innovative materials and technologies and workshops. The participative character will be encouraged, which facilitates the assimilation of contents and encourages teacher/student interaction. There will be several practical activities where students will be involved in the formation of textile structures.
