    The Portuguese and European Economy unit is integrated into the 1st year of the Degree in Management. This curricular unit aims to introduce students to the most critical events in the evolution of the Portuguese economy from the end of the 19th century to the beginning of the 21st century, mainly through analysing the economy's trajectory in terms of convergence with the European economy.

    1. European Industrialization and Portuguese Economic Backwardness (1830-1913). 2. The Period of the World Wars and the Crisis of 1929 (1913-1950). 3. The Introverted Industrialization of the 1950s (1950-1960). 4. European Integration in the 1960s (1960-1973). 5. The Period of Ruptures and Oil Shocks (1973-1985). 6. The Consolidation of European Integration (1985-2010). 7. The Last Decade (2010-2021).

    Objectives

    This curricular unit's main objectives are to provide students with the knowledge necessary to understand the recent dynamics of the Portuguese and European economies and the tools necessary to analyze the economic policies applied and their results.
  • Teaching methodologies and assessment

    Teaching methodologies and assessment

    The classes' methodology is theoretical-practical, centred on exposition, dialogue, collective reflection, and practical exercises with the students. All pedagogical material is available on the Moodle platform. Assessment is continuous and consists of 2 elements: • Assessment test with 50% weighting.  • Group work with 35% weighting.  • Classwork with 15% weighting.
