To understand the fundamentals of Social Work, it is necessary to draw on the antecedents of Assistance dating back to Classical Antiquity, the Middle Ages, and Industrialization. Social Work comes with the Schools and Social Work. It acquires its identity in social intervention and later in research. The relevance of knowledge creation linked to intervention today places Social Work as a partner in knowledge creation and as the oldest profession of social intervention

Contextualization of the Conceptual Bases and Intervention Models in Social Work 2.1 The first efforts to systematize a professional method 2.2 Case Social Work Method 2.3 Group Social Work Method 2.4 Community Social Work Method 3. Genesis, emergence and evolution of Social Work at an international level 4. Social Work in Portugal: Genesis, evolution and institutionalization 4.1 The implementation of democracy and perspectives for the profession 4.2 Socioeconomic changes, social movements and the evolution of the profession between the 1930s and the 60s of the 20th century 4.3 Academic qualifications. Theoretical-practical requirements and ethical policies 5. Critical movements and reconceptualization of the classic Social Work.

Teaching methodologies and assessment
Theoretical-practical classes follow an active methodology, encouraging the search for knowledge, promoting student autonomy, stimulating debate, promoting the exposure of their opinions, increasing critical spirit. An approach to the community is also privileged, through open classes with invited professionals from Social Work practices, experiences outside the classroom. The objective is to involve the student in their learning process.
