Class Aging and Types of Old Age(s): Knowledge and Intervention

The course presents the aging phenomenon in contemporary society, focusing on its specificities in Portugal. It addresses aspects of geriatrics and gerontology, understanding aging as a process that can be active and encouraging students to engage with diverse realities such as Nursing Homes and Day Care Centers, among other forms of elderly care. It also presents the Social Work approaches to the phenomenon.

Systems of Protection in Old Age: State, Institutions, and Family; 4. Health and Well-being in Old Age (Quality of Life in the Elderly, Functional Capacity, Rehabilitation and Psychosocial Intervention in Dependency Situations, Autonomy, Environment); 5. Building New Forms of Sociability in the Aging Process and Old Age (Interpersonal Networks, Support and Neighborhood Relationships, Participation and Best Practices); 6. Gerontological Social Work - Role and Professional Practices.

All those considered pertinent and adequate in a given moment/situation and that contribute to the improvement of students' learning.
