    The Master's Degree in Intelligent and Sustainable Energy Systems is a new initiative by Lusófona University to qualify potential professionals and students through contact with the state of the art in the energy field, equipping them with skills in renewable energies, decarbonization, digitalization and markets. The course stimulates creativity and entrepreneurship, preparing professionals to face innovative challenges and maintain competitiveness in the energy sector. With an interdisciplinary approach, it includes topics such as Energy Economics and Policy, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and optimization, making it ideal for engineers, managers and other professionals aligned with the energy transition.

    Admission Conditions

    The proposed study cycle is a specialization master's degree, and therefore does not require specific prior academic qualifications from its applicants. Thus, in addition to graduates in Electrical and Computer Engineering, Electrical Power Systems Engineering, and Telecommunications and Informatics Engineering, graduates from other engineering fields, such as Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, and Environmental Engineering, may also apply. Furthermore, graduates in fields such as Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, Economics, Management, and Architecture are also eligible to apply.

    Knowledge, abilities and skills to be acquired

    1. Energy Systems Analysis and Management - Ability to understand, model and optimize energy systems, including electricity grids, energy flows and electricity markets. 2. Digitalization and Artificial Intelligence Applied to Energy - Knowledge of Data Mining, Machine Learning for predictive analysis, consumption management and optimization of intelligent transport systems and electricity grids. 3. Development of Sustainable Solutions and Decarbonization - Ability to design energy efficiency, renewable energy and CO¿ capture and reuse strategies, in line with the objectives of the energy transition. 4. Market Management and Energy Policies - Ability to interpret and apply regulations, energy policies and market models, understanding the impact of the energy transition on the public and private sectors. 5. Entrepreneurship and Innovation in the Energy Sector - Ability to identify business opportunities, develop new models and create startups or innovative projects in the energy sector, adapting to technological and environmental trends.

    Reasons for joining

    • The curricular plan for this 2nd cycle is based on a gap that currently exists in the national education system, namely the absence of a cycle of studies in both public and private higher education institutions that jointly addresses the subject of energy systems and artificial intelligence.
    • Professionals who want to complement their 1st cycle training by preparing themselves for the present and future challenges of decarbonization and the energy transition will find an answer in this training of professionals with skills in these areas that meet the growing needs and demands of the market and companies in the sector.
    • From a pedagogical point of view, the existence of a 1st year and a 2nd year with more general and transversal curricular units, aimed at consolidating knowledge of the basic scientific areas, and other more specific and advanced curricular units, respectively, is considered an added value for students.
    • Most of the courses focus on the central themes of the master's degree and allow for a certain homogenization of the students' previous training, as it is foreseen that the students' previous training may be diverse.
    • Providing students with theoretical and practical tools both in sustainable energy systems and in the area of data science and optimization, which are fundamental to the identity of this master's degree.
    • The fact that the course is offered as a face-to-face after-work program gives students great flexibility.
